A Watering Can Lamp

I saw the sweetest little lamp made from a teacup over at
Happy to be/Gloria's!
I thought it would be fun to make one for my mom's birthday that was coming up.

I already had almost everything on hand, but just decided to use a little watering can instead of a teacup. Gloria said you could even use a gravy boat, or wedding shoe . . . . how cute would that be!

 I covered the lamp shade with the darling red fabric and added the miniature
pom-poms. I made the pattern for the shade by tracing around its edges and then cut it a little bit bigger so I could turn it under.

Basically, I just followed Gloria's amazing tutorial, but adapted it to using a watering can instead of a teacup! You could also embellish it with a little bird, or nest with eggs!

I think this one would make such an adorable kitchen lamp! They would also be great for a guest bathroom or bedroom! This was really an easy and quick project and it was so much fun to make! I definitely want to make another one . . . . but, next time for me!

Vintage Baby Clothes

I just love collecting anything vintage and vintage baby clothes are just so sweet and charming! I like the nice little touch they add to my home. They are all one of a kind and most were hand-made! 

Vintage baby clothes range from the 1920's to the 1970's.

Of course, they all had to be ironed!

The fabrics were different back then.

 

 I'll have to admit .... a few of these were even worn by me!

This is a little coat my grandmother made for me. It is made from dotted swiss fabric. The smocking makes it look so pretty!

Vintage baby clothes have so many details and the hand embroidery makes them so unique and special.

The little buttons are just adorable!

I think they add a bit of whimsy!

Saying Good-Bye

On January 13, 2011, a great story that has stretched for over 90 years came to an end. My Father-in-law, a WW II Veteran, a God fearing man, a good father and husband of 69 years past on to Heaven.  His blind eyes here on earth have now been opened to the wonders of our Savior. He will be greatly missed, but it brings us joy that he is not confined to his bed any more. He can now run with Jesus!

Vintage Hats

I feel fortunate to have so many of my grandmother's hats. Most of the hats were

handmade by her! I especially remember when I was a little girl, she would 

always wear one to church. 

I wasn't quite sure how I wanted to display them .... I'm thinking I kind of 

like this way. Since I'm still in the process of redecorating our bedroom, I am constantly changing things around. I have many vintage items that belonged to my grandmother which I am using, besides yard sale finds. Our bedroom furniture actually belonged to my great-great grandparents! 

The vintage white lamp with the roses, I found at a yard sale for $2.00! I purchased the lamp shade at Ross, but then added the fringe. 

The pink depression glass cake stand was my grandmother's, as well. I really like using it to display vintage perfume bottles.

A vintage hat that I just adore!  

I still need to sew the curtains (or window treatments), sew some pillows and also have a few other things to complete.... so, to be continued! But, it is all so much fun and I'm excited about the way it is all turning out!

New Year's Blessings!

I know I haven't posted for awhile, but have been super busy with my family.

We had a wonderfully blessed Christmas Season! 

I am so thankful for my family and just having my kids all home is a blessing!

They decided to throw a New Year's Eve party for their friends!

Jaime who is super organized, planned all the fun games!

making them feel welcome!

Josh the chef, prepared some awesome food wearing my apron!

They all did a really fantastic job and Jim and I were so proud of how 

well their party turned out! It was a lot of fun! 

Of course, sparkling cider was their beverage of choice!

I am anxious to get the new year underway. It seems most of you have 

already taken down all of your Christmas decorations. But, I still have 

to put mine away since we always keep ours up until  

New Year's Day. I am definitely ready to pack things up! Tomorrow!

I have so many decorating projects I want to begin now!

 For starters, I am hoping to finally finish up our bedroom! I still have curtains

 to sew, and many other ideas to figure out.

I don't know about all of you, but one of my favorite gifts to receive at Christmas

are gift cards from home improvement stores!
