Another Before and After!

 I found this little drawer at a yard sale for $5.00. It's only about 2 feet tall.

 I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with it at first or even what I would put in it. I thought I would probably paint it or something, but then realized my husband could really use this in his office. So it stayed like this for awhile in his office.

Suddenly, I had an idea ( probably from Pinterest) to add some vintage book pages to the drawers! I got out the mod podge and went to work! Since my husband's office is very vintage, book pages seemed to fit quite well.  Here is a link to a previous post about our library/ home office.

I've had some really busy months lately and I'm hoping things will settle down soon and I can do some more projects around my home. I've also been working quite a bit as a substitute teacher. I just pulled out all my fall decorations and am slowly getting my home all decorated for fall! With the hot and humid weather we've been having here in California, it's been really hard to get into a fall mood....at least it's cooling down at night!

Carrot Cake - A Family Favorite!

I've been making this Carrot Cake recipe for my husband on his birthday every year since we're been married! He just celebrated his birthday and we've been enjoying this cake for the past few days! I've forgotten just how yummy it is, since I only make it once a year! So, I thought I would share this recipe for my husband's absolute favorite cake! 

Carrot Cake

1 1/2 cups oil

4 eggs

2 cups sugar

Mix above ingredients. 

Add 2 cups flour, 2 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. salt, 2 tsp. cinnamon

Add 3 cups grated carrots, mix together 

Put in 2 round cake pans. (I butter & flour the sides of the pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper so they won't stick). 
 Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

Cream Cheese Frosting

1 - 8 oz. cream cheese, softened

3/4 cup butter

 2 tsp. vanilla

1 box powdered sugar
Mix together.

So Vintage Disney!

A few days ago, my husband and I celebrated our 32nd anniversary!!! We decided to go to Disneyland, by ourselves without the kids! After all, that is where we met! We both worked at the Golden Horseshoe Revue in Frontierland, where Jim was the stand-up comedian and I was a waitress! We have so many fond memories of Disneyland and it was fun to reminisce! In fact, Jim asked me out on our first date standing right in front of the Golden Horseshoe!

We ate lunch at the Blue Bayou and ordered the Monte Cristo sandwiches for old times sake! I was taking lots of pictures and was especially having fun snapping photos of all the vintage signs found around Disneyland and California Adventure! This sign is from Disney's California Adventure Park.

So very vintage!

Welcome to the new Cars Land!

This vintage style sign of "Flo's V-8 Cafe" is found in the new Cars Land! Which I love, by the way!

 

It makes you feel kinda like you stepped back in time!

Cars Land is so very vintage Route 66!

We'll be heading back to Disneyland soon and this time will be taking our two youngest kids along! They still can't believe we went to Disneyland without them!

Thirty-two years ago!

I guess you could say we are so vintage Disney, too!

A Vintage Themed Reception

 It seems that weddings today are using lots of vintage props. So, I borrowed some things from my home to add a vintage touch to the wedding I decorated for my niece Raeanna and husband Stephen. The typewriter was borrowed from my husband's office and I used Mom's Typewriter font to print the Scripture that's in the typewriter. 

Since there is a long entryway as you walk into the reception room, we had two tables set up for displaying some of the bride and groom's mementos. On the first table, we placed the guest book for everyone to sign as they walk in. The bride and groom had a book made using their engagement photos and even had places for their guests to sign in it. I thought this was a very clever idea!

Using a vintage suitcase for cards is an idea I've seen on Pinterest. It's kind of hard to see, but I made a vintage luggage tag with "Maui" written on it, which is their honeymoon destination! The vintage suitcase belonged to my grandmother.

This is the second table and was borrowed from my sister Robbie's home.      

I love using chalkboards because there are just so many cute sayings to write on them! The tree trunk was left over from all the rounds used for the centerpieces on the tables. I thought it would be a cute idea to carve out a heart, then add their initials. My husband had to help me do this! I think the tree could easily be used later as a little side table in the bride and groom's first apartment. Their last name begins with a "W"!

It was a lot of fun decorating for this wedding! My two daughters Jaime and Jessica helped so much and came up with many of the ideas. They both have been interning with an event stylist this past year and have learned an incredible amount! They are also learning to do flowers and even head down to the L.A. Flower Mart at 4:30 in the morning to buy all the flowers for the weddings they're working on! Jaime helped with a wedding a few days ago and made all the corsages! They are hoping to have an event styling business someday and maybe this wedding will be the start they need!
