Vintage Lamp Redos

I've been super busy getting things ready for my space at The Desert Cottage. I'm having so much fun redoing vintage floor lamps! Here's a lamp redo I just finished for the store. I really, really wanted to keep it! It sold just in a few days and that is a good thing, but I still wanted one for myself!
I've had this floor lamp for many years. I was thinking it could definitely use an update!
I decided to redo this one and keep it. This is the before photo. At least I remembered to take a before picture! I keep forgetting to do that!
I'm really happy how it turned out. It seems funny ripping the shades off, though… I'm sure my mom would think I'm crazy!
Here's a few more vintage lamps I've been working on.
I so wish I had remembered to take before photos!
They were all in really bad shape!
Here's a table lamp I just redid. I painted it white, but decided not to rip the shade off and just add embellishments! They are all for sale now in space #31 over at The Desert Cottage!

I'm Over at The Desert Cottage Now!

I thought after the wedding was over things would actually start to settle down a bit. In some ways they did, as I was not constantly thinking and preparing for the wedding everyday. However, right after the wedding I decided to visit the new antique/vintage store which had just opened up in our town.
After taking just a few steps inside... I fell in love! The Desert Cottage is packed full of beautiful vintage treasures and one-of-a-kind finds… definitely my kind of place! Anyway, a few days later I found myself with the opportunity to rent a space here! So, I moved out of my other store and into The Desert Cottage! Here's a view of my new space!

A Dream Reception!

I took this photo of the reception area, before the wedding began.
I was upstairs in the bride's room looking down as everything was still being set up. I really love this venue and it was perfect for our rustic chic themed wedding!
Here's a photo of the dessert table.
My sister Jennifer made the cake (which is carrot, by the way) and the caramel apples (which I heard were amazing)! We asked family members to make pies, or buy them.
I made a strawberry rhubarb on the right and the mother of the groom made an apple pie! We made little banners saying who made each pie!
Here's a photo of one of the table settings.
As you can see, it was a fall themed wedding! We spray painted the large mason jars gold, as well as the acorns! I loved the idea of using the little white pumpkins!  Thank you, Brier Rose Design you did an amazing job on the flowers, as always!
Here's a few more photos. The bride and groom table is on the bottom right.
The father-daughter dance was another bittersweet moment.
As the evening went on, we had a roaring fire in the fireplace, perfect for a cool fall evening! It really was a dream-like reception and wedding… and now it really feels as if it were all a dream!

A Dream-Like Wedding!

It couldn't have been a more perfect day for a wedding! The mountain setting for the ceremony was simply stunning!

My handsome husband was so proud and honored to walk our beautiful daughter Jaime down the aisle.
The ceremony was enchanting and at times humorous, but most importantly God was honored.

Jaclyn, the little princess was the best flower girl ever!
Jaime's bouquet was exquisite and the rose petals scattered on the grass added the most perfect touch!
I love this photo of Jaime looking back at me and her dad. It was a very bittersweet moment.

My next post will be of the reception that followed!

LE MAGNIFIQUE wedding blog feature!

Jaime and Michael's engagement photos are being featured in LE MAGNIFIQUE an online wedding magazine! We are so excited about this and I just had to share! The wedding is only two days away! I can't believe it is finally here! I am happy beyond words, but also a little stressed about finishing up everything that needs to get done! After the wedding my life will slow down considerably and I can get back to blogging. I have so much to share about what I've been doing! Can you believe I just redid my living and dining room in the last few weeks?
Well, I must go bake some pies, prepare appetizers for 180 people, run some last minute errands, get ready for family that is arriving today, etc. But mostly, I just want to really enjoy these last few days with my sweet daughter Jaime!

Anyway, I'm so glad we have this same photographer for the wedding! I can hardly wait to share this wedding with everyone!

Shower Flowers!

Jaime's bridal shower was so beautiful with all the pretty flowers we got from the L.A. Flower Mart! I absolutely adore this flower arrangement in the vintage train case! Jessica found it at a yard sale and it was so ugly, they just gave it to her! She painted it a light mint and added a few embellishments and it became the talk of the shower!
Do you know what kind of flowers these light peach ones are? Can you believe they are carnations? Usually carnations are my least favorite flower, but I think these are simply stunning! Love the Luray dishes, too!
I really love the arrangement in this bird cage! I especially like how all the different flowers are arranged together! There are hydrangeas, imported roses, lisianthus, stock, Queen Anne's Lace, eucalyptus leaves and Spanish moss.
I grabbed this photo from Instagram. This is just before all the guests arrived. We were blessed to have so many ladies come and celebrate Jaime's bridal shower!
Here are some of the favors we made for the shower! I have to admit, I stole this idea from Pinterest! Michael, my future son-in-law spray painted the mason jars for me! I think they look so cute filled with succulents! I can't believe the wedding is just three weeks away!!!

A Fun Trip to the L.A. Flower Mart!

We are finally back from our five week tour and I knew I would arrive home with my feet running! It's just one month now until my daughter Jaime's wedding! My daughter Jessica had been planning a bridal shower for Jaime since she is the Maid of Honor.
We had to make an early morning trip to the L.A. Flower Market on the day of the shower! It was still dark out when we left home and the sun was just coming up when we arrived! This place is absolutely amazing! Aren't these hydrangeas beautiful?
This was my first trip to the flower mart with Jessica and Collette. Jessica has been interning for Collette for almost two years now. Collette is an amazing floral designer and is frequently featured in many online wedding magazines!
Jessica is styling this bridal shower all by herself! She walked around the flower mart just like a pro thoughtfully choosing all the flowers for todays arrangements. I learned it takes a very good eye to choose just the right flowers.
My very sweet daughter Jessica (haha) and Collette from Brier Rose Designs.
I bought tons of succulents for shower favors! This is the best place to buy them! I will show you what we did with them and all the beautiful flower arrangements in my next post!

Just an Update!

This is one of my favorite photos from Jaime and Michael's engagement shoot! The wedding plans for their September wedding are coming along great! Gathering ideas and planning a wedding has been wonderful, but the dreaming and planning stage is over and the final decisions have been made!

Here's a photo of my new space!
I had the opportunity to move to a larger one. I've been finding out it's not that hard to keep full. It is just so much fun playing store!
I've found some great pieces of furniture to redo for my booth. This is the before photo of a dresser I scored at a yard sale recently. I so wanted to keep it!
Here it is now painted along with one of the chairs I've redone. They are presently for sale in my booth! I used the homemade chalk paint recipe to redo them.

Also, on top of the wedding and having a space to maintain, I am heading out on a road trip with my husband and two youngest kids for five weeks! Actually, he is on tour and we're just tagging along. We'll be leaving in just a few days and will be traveling through Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and California! I'm really looking forward to it, but at the same time nervous about being gone for that long... especially before the wedding!

My two oldest daughters will be taking care of my booth while I'm gone. I plan on posting as we travel, if I can figure out how to do that on my new ipad! It should be quite an adventure, to say the least!

You Have to be an Antique to Appreciate Them!

I know I've been away from blogland for awhile and I have certainly been missing it! I have really missed seeing what everyone has been up to! It seems life has been unusually busy for me lately! Everything is fine, in fact, it couldn't be better! With all the wedding plans and now the opportunity to have a space in a cute vintage store, well...they have been taking front row in my life right now!

Actually, about two weeks ago I found myself with the opportunity to rent a small space in a local store. Some amazing ladies from my church were opening an antique/vintage shop and were looking for vendors. I knew this was the opportunity I was always tossing around in the back of my mind. I knew that I needed to do this! However, I didn't have a stockpile of anything to put in it! So I got busy trying to find things, repaint them and even shop my own house! I'm hoping in the next few weeks to have lots more stuff!

We open tomorrow and will be having the grand opening in a few weeks!

Yes... to the DRESS!

The wedding plans are coming along pretty well, and recently we went shopping for "the dress"! Jaime was just planning to look, get some ideas and see what type of wedding dress would look best on her. But, after trying on lots of beautiful gowns, she found the one!!!

I can't hardly wait until I can share this wedding with everyone! But, until then, I will be giving updates as things progress. Planning a wedding and being a first time mother of the bride is absolutely amazing, but it can get a little overwhelming at times. However, things are definitely falling into place! The photographer is now booked, table-settings and decorations are all being worked out. The guest list keeps getting whittled away at, as we are trying to keep the guest count to under 250! I also want to mention, we are doing this all on a very strict budget and that a beautiful wedding doesn't have to be expensive! It just takes lots of creativity and planning!
